CCA Annual Convention 2016 - Workshop Overview

Our Annual Convention this year included an interactive workshop programme with participation from the Financial Conduct Authority and Gough Square Chambers:

“Being Supervised by the FCA” - Adrian Plowman, Senior Associate, Finanacial Conduct Authority

Adrian's position as a front line supervisor at the FCA since 2010 has provided him with broad experience of overseeing a wide variety of firms across numerous market sectors. The workshop focused around firms putting customers at the heart of their business. Adrian provided an overview of what FCA regulation means for authorised firms and the FCA approach to regulation and reporting. The common mistakes that are sometimes made by firms provided a starting point for members internal reviews..

“Creditworthiness & Affordability” - Iain MacDonald, Barrister, Gough Square Chambers

Iain has extensive experience in the field of consumer credit, acting for a range of lenders and regulators. He addressed the requirement for CCA members to implement clear and effective policies to ensure that creditworthiness, in terms of affordability and sustainability, is fully assessed.  Sources of information to help with this assessment were suggested and common misunderstandings were highlighted. The session concluded with a lively debate involving members' own experiences in the home credit sector.

The presentation slides from these sessions are available to our members on request by emailing lee.mcavery@ccauk.org.
