SD Taylor Wins the 2016 Michael Liley Award

The CCA is delighted to announce that the winner of the 2016 Michael Liley award is SD Taylor Limited.

Most of our members will be familiar with the Michael Liley Award, presented at our Annual Convention in recognition of the father of the CCA who sadly passed away three years ago.  Michael made an immense contribution to the home credit industry and was a true visionary who embraced new ideas, technologies and business challenges.  He recognised that for a home credit firm to be successful it must not only be well managed and funded but must also put the needs of the customer first at every stage of their borrowing journey.

This year's winner, SD Taylor has demonstrated an ability to do just this. Under a year ago, a new company, Non Standard Finance, acquired the home credit business of S & U, an investment of just over £82 million. Trading as SD Taylor Limited, the experienced management team has been driving the company forward to achieve four primary objectives: growth, more effective systems and processes, developing people and applying the highest standards of customer service and compliance.

The commitment to both growth AND compliance in a new company with aggressive financial objectives would challenge any management team. These priorities and the manner in which the acquisition has been handled are exactly what would have been loudly applauded by Michael.

Mark Bardsley, chief executive officer of SD Taylor was presented the award by Phil Carey, Chairman of the CCA at this year's convention venue, the Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport.

Mark comments: “SD Taylor is very proud to receive this award from the CCA. I had the great pleasure of knowing Michael and serving on the CCA Executive Committee with him for many years. His wisdom and insight into Home Credit have helped me personally during my 30 years in the industry. SD Taylor hold true to the traditions of Home Credit whilst recognising the opportunities to modernise the service we provide to our customers. It’s important we embrace technological innovation in today’s changing world, particularly given the regulatory expectations we face today. Finally, I would like to thank my colleagues at SD Taylor for embracing the philosophy we have brought to the business and also pay tribute to the hundreds of agents who deliver a much valued service to our customers.  Without them there wouldn’t be a Home Credit industry.
