About the Consumer Credit Association

Representing our members since 1978

The Consumer Credit Association is the trade association for the home credit industry in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, promoting the highest possible standards of business and customer service.

Founded in 1978 from the National Personal Finance Association and the Retail Credit Federation, the CCA was established to monitor and maintain standards in the home credit industry. It has gone from strength to strength ever since, adapting to the continually changing landscape and continuing to be a respected and influential trade association for home credit lenders for more than 40 years.

Find Out More

All of our members are home credit lenders, ranging from large public limited companies, through medium and small sized business, to sole traders. Our member companies may range in size, but they all share the same passion to provide home credit and deliver excellent service to those consumers who need it most.

The CCA is a first point of contact for the Financial Conduct Authority – the industry’s regulator – policy makers, local authorities, the media, consumer groups and other finance sector representative bodies who have an interest in the home credit industry. We work closely with all of these stakeholders to represent our member’s views and to ensure their voice is heard.

What Is Home Credit?

Home Credit offers access to small, affordable loans with a repayment method that is transparent, low risk, convenient and flexible.

No surprises, no hidden fees or penalty charges

Home credit loans are based on a fixed sum, with a fixed, all-in charge which is set out clearly in the contract and explained by the agent. There are no additional fees or extra interest added during the course of the loan. The customer only repays what they agreed to borrow, in an agreed number of affordable repayments, each bringing down the balance owed by the exact amount of the repayment. The customer knows exactly how much they need to repay and there are no charges or penalty fees for late or missed payments – the agent will be as flexible as possible and simply agree a new repayment plan with the customer.

Locally delivered, personal service

CCA members are FCA authorised and most are well established businesses that have been around for years. As local providers who know and understand their community, they are able to deliver a high level of personal service.

Loans are arranged and delivered to the customer’s home, by agents who often live and workin their customers' communities. This enables the agent to develop an in-depth understanding of the customer and ensure that they can deliver a responsible, reliable and personal service to meet their needs.

Repayment options

CCA members are FCA authorised and most are well established businesses that have been around for years. As local providers who know and understand their community, they are able to deliver a high level of personal service.

Home credit customers find that weekly, or bi-weekly, visits from an agent to collect repayments in cash from their home helps them to manage their money effectively, and all or most repayments by the customer are made this way. If necessary, and with the agent’s agreement, a card or direct repayment through the customer's bank account may be made. Repayment options are all agreed with the customer at the outset.

How Are Our Members Regulated?

Since 1st April 2014, every reputable business or individual offering consumer credit in the UK is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (the ‘FCA’) to ensure that the highest standards of conduct are always maintained. (If based in Ireland, consumer credit businesses are regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.) All home credit providers must meet the FCA’s stringent authorisation requirements in order to carry out consumer credit activities. The FCA also provides ongoing supervision to ensure fair treatment for consumers and enforcement, should any poor practices which may damage consumer interests be identified. To find out whether a home credit lender is authorised, check the Financial Services Register on the FCA’s website.
